About the Class
Astrology is commonly thought of as an oracle, that is, as a predictive tool capable of ascertaining one’s future. While it is true that astrology can be used in this predictive manner, its capacity for foretelling the actual events of one’s life has diminished over the centuries.
This is due to our heightened capacity for self-reflection.
The world in which we live is geared toward the creation of consciousness. Our evolutionary history is evidence of that. With our self-reflective awareness, we stand at the pinnacle of consciousness.
Yet we could be even more aware, even more conscious. To this end, we must be pushed - the greater Self will present us with various challenges and opportunities designed to spur our development. This is our fate.
Where we readily meet the demands for heightened consciousness, however, and appease the demands of the greater Self, we reduce this need to be pushed. We avert our fate.
The same concept is to be found found in Greek myth. Apollo, the god of the sun and light, had the ability the ward off the Erinyes and the three fates.
Regarding the push for consciousness, the gods/archetypes prefer to be met psychologically. Denied that opportunity, they are forced to manifest as the events of our life.
Psychological astrology is what may be described as archetypally predictive. Certain planetary configurations serve to constellate an archetypal dynamic. This is the 'lesson' we need to learn. In the east, it would be termed our karma.
This karma may be met inwardly, or outwardly. Where we meet the dynamic inwardly, and achieve a shift in consciousness, we remove the demand for an outward expression. When we do nothing, then we must meet our karma as the events of our life. These events, however, are designed to prompt that same consciousness that would have been more easily achieved were we more reflective to begin.
In this session, we will look at how to work with astrological transits, to learn what to expect from particular astrological alignments.
